De morte. (Concerning death.)

I believe a couple of different things about what happens when we die, simultaneously, cuz that's fun.

A) I've long known (and have re-realized many times) that I place my faith and my hope in the ecosystem, that the same hope and the same optimism others find in an omnipotent omnibenevolent God, I find in the base ecological reality that everything is useful and waste is just another word for "someone else's food". A complete immanence of divinity is part of that, and that means that what happens to the subtle body after "death" would naturally be in some way analogous, similar, or equivalent to what happens to the gross body. Hell, it might even be the same process ~ which has a certain aesthetic glamour to it*. What happens to the gross body when you die? It is eaten by other beings who take these little bits of your body and turn them into their own body (well, they turn most of it into keeping themselves alive, but that still follows the same ultimate lala, since energy is neither created nor destroyed). This process is repeated hundreds of times until ~ faster than we assume ~ molecules and atoms that were once part of your body are spread more or less evenly across the surface of the planet. We die so that others may live by eating us so that they in turn can die so that others may live so that they can die so that yet others may live . . . . It is why we are alive.

To put it in the vague terms of one of the divine beings I worship (work for, actually ~ she's my Boss Lady): We give the stores of motion in our heart to the universe, giving it a push and keeping it going, preventing it from winding down.

B) I define the ecosystem a bit broader than many, informed by Teilhard de Chardin and Velikovsky and others (Tolkien has certainly influenced me here, too, though I doubt he'd be discussing this as ecological). The seven parts of the ecosystem are atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, lithosphere, pledosphere, magnetosphere and the noosphere. The noosphere is where memes live, the subset of the ecology that involves things like religions and languages and the gods and economic systems and advertising jingles and things. I assert that the noosphere is as vital to the functioning of the ecosphere as any of the others, and that means that it is so in addition to and separate from its effects on human behavior. One of the ways I describe death is as when one's memes overtake one's genes. While we live, our bodies and existence are defined by our genes (and molecules and atoms and things, but please allow me my poetical flourishes); after we die, our bodies and existence are defined by our memes, the stories told about us. Importantly, we have no actual control over the content, tone, longevity, or intent of those stories; we can just hope while we're alive that our actions inspire people to tell stories about us that we will be happy to become. Insofar as my ethics depend upon my view of the afterlife, that is how they do so.

C) I've visited a couple of different afterworlds ~ Hades, the Kur, etc. ~ and have friends in several of them. Specifically, I have ritually put my afterlife in the hands of Ol' Four-Letters (YHVH, that is) and Diuus Antinous (boyfriend of the Roman emperor Hadrianus Caesar ~ the one who built that wall in Britain) so far. Several of the other divinities that i work with are likely to get involved as well, though I need to do ritual to ensure such things. The same is true of the various beings I worship as ancestors of all four types (of blood, of love, of path, of land) and the non- and pre-human ancestors of extinction I worship, as well. I expect to end up in Diuus Antinous's realm and hopefully on the ancestor shrines of at least a few of my friends and relatives (my niblings, especially). It would be nice to have homes in various death-realms ~ I could travel!

I've helped birth two ritual songs that also sum up my thoughts:
#1
We are blood, and we are bone:
We're carrion, yes, we're carrion.

We are breath and we are soul:
We carry on, yes, we carry on.

We are here, and we are there,
Within spirit, we're everywhere.

Hey, Great Mystery, can you bum a prayer?
Just to carry on, just to carry on.

#2
As I eat, I know one day I'll be eaten.
As I treat, I know one day I'll be treated.
As I need, I know one day I'll be needed.

As I weave, I know one day I'll be woven.
As I break, I know one day I'll be broken.
As I hope, i know one day I'll be open.

* Aesthetics is the mother of all philosophy, as decisions are ultimately arbitrary, and aesthetics is the philosophy of how we make arbitrary decisions. In this way, aesthetics is the mother of everything, really.

Magick and the Elements

Fuck Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Spirit. I have Atmos, Hydros, Lithos, Bios, Magnetos, Pledon, and Nous. And they all make up the Oikos.

What that means: I strive for a deeply ecological understanding of the subtle, weird things, one which radically asserts and centers the idea that the noosphere (the realm of consciousness, thought, culture, religion, of MEMES) is just as much of a part of the ecosystem as the atmosphere or hydrosphere or lithosphere. And that, as such, it exerts influence on those other portions of the ecosystem without the mediation of human action (that is: it's not just that the noosphere changes what we do; we are often not involved at all!) AND that beings which are p composed of memes rather than genes (ghosts, gods, spirits, et cetera) have Will and agency beyond their interactions and relationships with humans. What do we call it when (most) birds actively interact with the atmosphere? Flying. When fish actively interact with the hydrosphere? Swimming. When humans actively interact with the noosphere? Poetry -- I mean, magick. Sorry, I make that mistake all the goddamn time upset emoticon

Magick is real, and it is all around you, and you are it, and it is the most natural and common thing there is. When was the last time you talked to a story?

Live poetically.

Politics (which are the same thing as religion, really)

I like to describe myself as an *ahem* cyborg eco-femina-anarcho-syndicalist primitivist (whew!) As a nonbinary genderqueer who is both neurowild and neuroqueer (and who neuroqueers regularly), I enjoy a status as something that Capitalism doesn't want, which gives me certain vantage points and perspectives cisgender, binary, neurodomesticated, and neurotypical people might not experience. As a white person, I also enjoy many of the benefits of being at the top of Capitalism's hierarchy, which means that I have the responsibility to ruthlessly examine myself and my actions to see where and how I am perpetuating oppression.

Axiom #1: Any anarchism that doesn't start with the understanding that we are all in this together is an invalid anarchism.
Axiom #2: When humankind began developing cities, we created a division between ourselves and the world, a fissure-wound composed of our alienation from the world. This alienation inevitably led to the development of a subject-object consciousness concerning our relationship with the world.
Axiom #3: Capitalism is the current epitome and apex of that subject-object consciousness. The ownership of the means of production by anyone other than the producer themselves is an inevitable seed of the alienation of labor. Whatever the core concept from which both labor and play derive is, it is a fundamental part of our being ~~ and might be magick.
Axiom #4: In order to achieve this alienation of labor and to primitively accumulate the resources and goods to privatize (a concept it itself developed), Capitalism cast a fearful curse of disenchantment on the people and the world. Re-enchanting the world is the first and most important strike against Capitalism, and re-enchanting the world begins with re-enchanting yourself.
Axiom #5: The worst kind of alienation of labor is alienation of _cultural_ labor. We must take back the means of cultural production; they are the frontlines against Capitalism.
Axiom #6: Rewilding and the apocalyptic abnegation of cities stem from a remarkably civilized point of view that asks "What is the right/best way?" not "What is our way?" Instead of walking away from the cities, my way would be to find wild ways to inhabit urban spaces. Feralize, not rewild. The Situationists, the Amish, and the homeless are the Holy Trinity of my cyborg primitivism

Horoscopy can be fun!

I'm still learning astrology.  In fact, I'm barely conversant with Hellenic astrology, confused by Vedic, and only have the barest scraps of knowledge about the tonalpohualli (the Nahua calendar of fates), so I post this here desirous and welcoming of any commentary, knowledge, or downloads my more studied readers may have . . .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INTERPRETATIONS:

Take it easy, take it slowly.  There's a feeling of return, unsurprising since I just returned home from spending Thankstaking with the family.  Family.  Family.  I long so hard to be there for my feymily, my land feymily in especial.  I have to prove myself.

Oh, look!  There's the wound that needs healing this Aesculapius moon, the painful inflammation that Mars and Pluto tell me to look at.  The Vulture tells me to take it slow, that it is better to be, to float, to be around but not acting, then to try to do something about it.  Healing, after all, requires bed rest not work, not repeating the same actions that caused the injury.  After all, the wound itself can affect the senses, can invert the reflexes, and causal relationships can get all fucked up when pain is a player.  Active disengagement seems to be the rule of the day -- monasticism apotheosed into cosmic significance for 24 hours or so.

Scavenge the dead flesh around the wound, the Vulture and the Fish say, find nutrition not only in nutrition (Panhyle exhorts me to not just maintain my body but to honor it and to pleasure it, and science tells me that doing so will actually improve my nutrition) but also in that which you are discarding, that which has come before.  Close the cycle of your own flesh and you become a superhero goddix, they tell me.

Change is possible today, alchemy even inevitable like the earthquake, a fulcrum point.  Time to be aware and pivot and lean as necessary and useful.

Cancer

Something halting you when you go to tackle your projects? Something in you resistant to doing all your grown up work? Something in you feels like having a temper tantrum cause you don’t waaaaaant tooooooo?

The resistance should pass by Tuesday.

Some creative juice should start to thaw and get you moving towards your goals. Some ignition should start to rev your engines. Some of the overwhelm or exhaustion should start to fade come the end of the week.

But there is still this issue. This issue that you are working on. This issue that is working on you. Something around home. Something around family. Something around foundations. Something around feeling safe and secure. Something about knowing where to be. Something about wanting to be where you are.

This something is digging itself into your experience like a red hot fire poker. This something wants to get to the heart of a psychological issue that connects to your core. This something lays deep under the surface and can be unveiled through the help of an intimate other.

If a relationship is worth its weight it will trigger our deepest feelings and help us heal the open wounds.

Go slowly with this stuff. There is no rush to work things out, though some of the discomfort may urge you to resolve things ASAP. Instead try to respect what you are in the process of. Moving towards “solving” an issue before you understand it can cause more harm than good. And there is more to this issue than what you can see at the present moment. Be open to the unfolding of this. Be patient with the part of you that wants it resolved.

Getting to know ourselves through our trials and our successes requires that we be willing to know all sides of the self. The needy, the greedy, the difficult, the sweet, the soft, the loving and everything else that lies in between the extremes.

Pisces Rising

Giving yourself what you need in order to live out your life’s purpose is most likely the greatest gift you can give yourself. Set yourself up for success. Take the class. Write the proposal. Declare your intentions to yourself. Face your fears around succeeding. Face your fears around being inadequate. Face yourself with as much compassion as you can muster. You don’t have to get this whole living life thing right, but you’ll enjoy it more if you love yourself through it. Grant yourself permission to be in the human struggle.

Exactly how your success will unfold is out of your control.

You might be well entrenched in your work. You might be well down the road of your destiny. You might be very sure of how it should unfold. But the truth is that none of us really know to what degree our work and our lives are affecting the world. Thank gods. The pressure would be too much if we were always conscious of it. The weight of our responsibility would freak us out. The mere knowledge of our impact can be paralyzing sometimes.

Best not to get transfixed on it.

Best to just get busy in the doing of our lives. Best to remind our selves of the next, simplest action to perform. Best to do what is in front of us to the best of our ability.

The significance of this day
Day Ollin (Movement) is governed by Xolotl as its provider of tonalli (Shadow Soul) life energy. This is an auspicious day for the active principle, a bad day for the passive principle. Ollin is a day of the purified heart, signifying those moments where human beings may perceive what they are becoming. A good day for transmutation, which arrives like an earthquake that leaves in its wake the ruins of rationality, order and the preconceived.

The thirteen day period (trecena) that starts with day 1-Cozcacuauhtli (Vulture) is ruled by Xolotl. This trecena signifies the wisdom and freedom of old age; it represents the path of the setting sun. While the way of the warriorpoints to the relationship between predator and prey, this sign points to to the Third Way, which is neither: these are 13 days set aside to perfect the Way of the Scavenger. While the young heart must strategize between offense and defense, the old heart float like the clouds, stooping to earth only to take what no one else wants. These are good days for disengaging; bad days for participating.

Michael Douglas was born on day 1-Cozcacuauhtli.

Cancer Horoscope for week of December 3, 2015
Verticle Oracle cardCancer (June 21-July 22)
In September of 1715, a band of Jacobite rebels gathered for a guerrilla attack on Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. Their plan was to scale the walls with rope ladders, aided by a double agent who was disguised as a castle sentry. But the scheme failed before it began. The rope ladders turned out to be too short to serve their intended purpose. The rebels retreated in disarray. Please make sure you're not like them in the coming weeks, Cancerian. If you want to engage in a strenuous action, an innovative experiment, or a bold stroke, be meticulous in your preparations. Don't scrimp on your props, accouterments, and resources.

www.astrobarry.com:

CANCER (June 21-July 22): This week's Mars-Pluto square across your solar 4th and 7th houses, Cancer, indicates a likelihood of continued emotional inflammation… which, though it would derive from inside you, could lead to a power-struggle or conflict that may or may not be directly related. In other words, don't be so sure you know who you're upset with, or for what reason. The inflaming individual in question might be an overly controlling influence in your life, causing you to feel impelled to fight back against their self-serving manipulation, on behalf of your own independence—or they may merely be the safest person in your world to lash out at or vilify, due to the psychological intimacy already established, rather than a legitimate target for your wrath. Please be warned, then, both the intensity of your reactions and the direction you're aiming them might not be circumstantially appropriate. Which is not to say, for the record, the feelings themselves aren't wholly worthy of your own respect (in terms of them signaling some deeper discontent with how you make the self/other tradeoff); you just won't want to rush into finger-pointing or tongue-lashing. As before, this same emotional edge can be constructively channeled into drafting plans for a professional plot-twist or game-change, this impulse to 'prove yourself' instead going toward a personal ambition.
